In August, 2023 the world celebrated the 50th anniversary of hip hop. Virginia Tech Digging in the Crates (VTDITC): Hip Hop Studies at Virginia Tech are working to bring the celebrations to Virginia Tech.

VTDITC: Hip Hop Studies at Virginia Tech, was created in 2016 by Craig Arthur and Dr. Frederick Paige as a way to teach students about the history of hip hop with a special focus on the New River Valley area.

The organization works to create a safe and accessible environment for students and members of the community to explore their interests and collaborate with others who share a love for hip hop and music creation.

This semester VTDITC: Hip Hop Studies at Virginia Tech are working with students to showcase that hip hop is an artform that deserves studying. They are doing this through events, showcases, and seminars.
